ShareChat Already Has a Download Button. So Why Use This?

It's a fair question, because ShareChat does let you save a post straight from the app. Tap the download icon on a video and it lands in your phone's gallery a few seconds later. The catch is what comes with it: the saved video carries a ShareChat watermark placed over the footage.

For a lot of people that's fine. It's less fine if you want to post the clip as a WhatsApp Status, use it in a presentation, or simply keep a clean copy of your own upload. The watermark sits on top of the picture and can't be taken off afterwards without cropping or blurring part of the video.

This ShareChat video downloader takes a different route. Instead of asking the app to export a stamped copy, it fetches the file ShareChat already stores for that post and hands it over as it is. There's nothing to crop out, because nothing was added. One App, 15 Languages

ShareChat was built for Indian languages first, not English. The app runs in 15 languages: Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Haryanvi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Tamil, Telugu and English.

That shapes what gets shared there. Posts tend to stay inside their own language community: a Bhojpuri song clip, a Tamil good-morning video, a Marathi devotional Status. ShareChat, Moj and MX TakaTak: Which Link Is Which?

All three names come from the same company, Mohalla Tech, which is why they get mixed up. They're still different apps with different links:

• ShareChat is the original app: video, photo and Status posts, audio chat rooms and messaging, organised around language communities. Its post links start with sharechat.com.
• Moj is the company's separate short-video app, launched in June 2020, the same month TikTok was banned in India. It has its own app and its own links.
• MX TakaTak was another Indian short-video app. ShareChat's parent company bought it in 2022 and folded it into Moj, so it no longer runs on its own.

This page is built around ShareChat links. If you have a Moj link, the box on the homepage is the better place for it, since it reads each link's address and sends it to the page meant for that platform.

What a ShareChat Link Looks Like

When you tap Share on a post and choose Copy Link, you get an address like sharechat.com/video/ followed by a short ID made of letters and numbers, often with something like ?referrer= added on the end. That whole address is what goes in the box above.

The link most people actually receive, though, arrives inside a WhatsApp forward. ShareChat attaches its own link to a post automatically whenever it's shared out of the app, so a forwarded message usually has a line of text, the link, and sometimes a second promotional line. Paste the whole message and your browser will refuse it, because the box only accepts a web address. Copy just the part that starts with https://sharechat.com, or tap the link once to open it and copy the address from the browser instead.

Video, Photo, Status and GIF Posts

ShareChat carries a few different kinds of post. There are regular video posts, photo posts, short Status-style clips made to be reshared the way you'd post a WhatsApp Status, and animated GIFs. This tool reads which one a link actually points to and returns the matching file: an MP4 for video and Status posts, the image itself for photo posts, and a GIF for animated ones, rather than making you pick a format first.

Quality is whatever ShareChat stored for that post. The file isn't re-encoded or compressed again on its way to you, and it isn't upscaled either. A clip that was uploaded at a low resolution will download at that same resolution, because no tool can add detail that was never recorded.

Saving a ShareChat Video on Android, iPhone and Computer

Most ShareChat users are on Android, so that comes first. The steps are short everywhere; what changes is where the finished file ends up.

On Android

1. Copy the link: In ShareChat, tap Share on the post and choose Copy Link. If it reached you on WhatsApp, long-press the link in the chat and copy just the link.
2. Paste it: Come back to this page in Chrome or Samsung Internet, paste the link into the box at the top, and tap Download.
3. Save it: Tap Save. The video goes into the phone's Download folder and appears in the Gallery app within a few seconds, ready to post as a Status or send on.

On iPhone & iPad

1. Copy the link: Open the post in ShareChat, tap Share, then Copy Link.
2. Paste it: Come back to this page in Safari, paste the link into the box at the top, and tap Download.
3. Save it: Tap Save and confirm Safari's download prompt. The file goes to the Downloads folder in the Files app; open it there, tap the Share icon, and choose Save Video, or Save Image for a photo, to move it into Photos.

On a PC, Mac or Chromebook

1. Copy the link: Open the post in your browser and copy the address from the address bar, or copy the link out of WhatsApp Web.
2. Paste it: Paste it into the box on this page and click Download.
3. Save it: Click Save. The file goes to your Downloads folder, ready to move to a phone or keep as a backup.

Why a ShareChat Download Fails

• Extra text pasted with the link: the most common one with WhatsApp forwards. Delete everything except the address, which starts with https://.
• A profile, tag or topic link: these point at many posts, not one. Open the post itself and copy its link.
• The post was deleted: once the uploader removes it, or ShareChat takes it down, there's no file left to fetch. Every request is made live, so there's no saved copy to fall back on.
• The post isn't public: if it only opens for certain people, it can't be reached from outside the app.
• A Moj link: Moj is a separate app. Paste it on the homepage instead so it goes to the right page.

Who Saves ShareChat Videos, and What For

• WhatsApp Status without a logo: by far the most common reason. A good-morning clip, a festival greeting or a devotional song looks cleaner as a Status without another app's watermark in the corner.
• Family groups: saving a video once and sending the file, instead of forwarding a link that relatives then have to open in an app they may not have.
• Creators backing up their own posts: keeping a clean copy of what you uploaded, in case an account or post is ever lost.
• Watching offline: keeping a few clips on the phone for a journey or a place with weak signal, where streaming isn't practical.

Is It Legal to Download a ShareChat Post?

Saving a public post for personal viewing or reference is generally treated as fair use. Re-uploading someone else's video or GIF as if it were your own, or using it commercially without permission, is a separate situation that carries real legal risk, regardless of which tool saved the file.

Removing a watermark doesn't change who owns the video. If you post a clip you didn't make, as a Status or anywhere else, credit the creator. The file on your phone changes where the video lives, not who it belongs to.
