Bandcamp's Listening Limit

Play a track on Bandcamp a few times and a box eventually asks you to buy it. Artists can cap how many times a visitor plays a track in full before that prompt appears. The default is three plays, and artists can raise the limit or switch it off from their profile.

A file saved here plays in your own music app, so the prompt doesn't follow it. But the limit exists because the artist is hoping you'll pay once you like something enough to keep coming back. If you find yourself replaying a track, that's the moment to buy it.

Tracks That Won't Download

1. Unreleased pre-order tracks. Before release day, a pre-order streams only the tracks the artist picked as teasers. The others are listed but can't be played, so they can't be downloaded until the album comes out.
2. Subscriber-only releases. Artists can keep demos, live recordings, and b-sides for fans who pay for their subscription. Those don't download here.
3. Removed releases. Once an artist or label takes a release down, there is nothing left to fetch. Every request is made live, so no copy is kept anywhere.
4. Artist home page links. Open a specific track or album and paste that link instead.
5. Extra text around the link. If the link came inside a message or a post, keep only the part that starts with https://.
