Why the Download Button Is Missing on Most Loom Videos

Loom does have a download option, but most viewers never see it, because three separate conditions all have to be true:

• The creator pays for Loom. Downloads are only available on the Business, Business + AI, and Enterprise plans. People recording on the free Starter plan can't allow downloads at all, and can't download their own videos either.
• The creator switched it on. Allow downloads is off unless the creator turns it on in their video settings. On Enterprise workspaces, an admin can also turn downloads off for the whole company.
• You're signed in on a paid plan. Viewers who aren't signed in to Loom, or who are on the Starter plan, can't download even when the creator allowed it.

So a video sent to a client, a candidate, or anyone outside the creator's company almost never offers a download. This tool doesn't go through that button. If the video plays for anyone with the link, pasting the link above gets you the MP4.

Which Loom Links Will Download

Every Loom recording gets a share link in the form loom.com/share/ followed by a 32-character ID. When a video is embedded in a help article, a Notion page, or a course, the player uses loom.com/embed/ with the same ID. Either link works here.

What matters is who the creator shared the video with. Loom lets them choose:

• Anyone with the link: downloads here.
• Only their workspace: plays only for signed-in members of that company's Loom, so it won't download.
• Specific people: plays only for the email addresses the creator added, so it won't download.
• Password protected: won't download, even if you have the password.

The quickest way to check is to open the link in a private or incognito window. If the video starts playing without asking you to sign in or type a password, it will work here. If Loom asks for either, ask the creator to send you the file or to change the link to anyone with the link.

What Resolution You'll Get

The downloaded MP4 is the highest-quality version Loom stored for that video. How high that goes depends on how it was recorded, not on this tool:

• Free Starter recordings are capped at 720p by Loom, so that's the most you'll get.
• Business and Enterprise recordings can be recorded at up to 4K. If the creator did, you get the 4K file.

Screen recordings with small text are where this shows most. A code walkthrough recorded at 720p will stay a little soft however it's saved, because the detail was never captured. Nothing is upscaled to look bigger than it is.

A video recorded a moment ago may still be processing on Loom's side, which can take a few minutes for long or high-resolution recordings. If a fresh link fails, wait briefly and paste it again.

Captions, Chapters, and the Transcript Stay on Loom

Loom adds several things on top of a video in its own player: auto-generated captions, chapters, and clickable call-to-action buttons. None of them are part of the video file, so the MP4 you save plays without them. Loom's own download leaves them out for the same reason.

If you want the words as well as the video, open the video on Loom and copy the transcript from its page. Copying the transcript is free on every Loom plan, while downloading captions as an SRT file needs a paid plan.

Saving a Loom Video on Your Phone or Computer

On iPhone & iPad

1. Copy the link: Tap the link in the email, Slack message, or document you were sent, then copy the address from Safari's address bar.
2. Come back to this page: Paste the link into the box at the top and tap Download.
3. Save it: Tap Save. Open the file from Safari's Downloads list, tap the Share icon, and choose Save Video to put it in Photos.

On Android

1. Copy the link: Long-press the Loom link wherever you received it and choose Copy link, or copy it from Chrome's address bar.
2. Come back to this page: Paste the link into the box at the top and tap Download.
3. Save it: Tap Save. The MP4 goes to your phone's Download folder and appears in your gallery app.

Why Loom Videos Disappear

A Loom link feels permanent, but the video behind it often isn't. Keeping your own copy protects you from a few common situations:

• The 25-video limit: the free Starter plan holds only 25 videos per person, so creators regularly delete older recordings to make room for new ones.
• Someone leaves the company: when a person is removed from a Loom workspace, the videos they never shared to an open Space are deleted unless an admin chooses to keep them.
• Your access ends: contractors, agencies, and candidates often lose access once a project or interview process is over, along with every video they were sent.
• Sharing settings change: a video you could watch last month may be switched to workspace-only after a security review.

Who Saves Loom Videos

• New hires: onboarding walkthroughs and tool demos to watch again later, without searching old messages for the link.
• Freelancers and agencies: client feedback and change requests, kept as a record after the project is handed over.
• Students: recorded feedback on assignments and lecture walkthroughs, to watch offline.
• Support and QA teams: bug reproductions recorded by customers, attached to a ticket so they don't vanish if the customer deletes them.

Loom Links That Won't Download

1. Workspace-only or specific-people videos. They only play for signed-in, approved viewers. Ask the creator for the file.
2. Password-protected videos. These don't download here, with or without the password.
3. Deleted or archived videos. If the link shows an error on Loom, there is nothing left to fetch. Every request is made live, so no copy is kept anywhere.
4. Videos still processing. A recording made moments ago may need a few minutes before it's ready.
5. Extra text around the link. If the link came inside a message, keep only the part that starts with https://.

Be Careful With What's on Screen

Most Loom videos are work recordings, and screen recordings capture whatever was open: dashboards, customer records, internal documents, sometimes a password manager or a private chat in the corner. Saving a video you were sent for your own reference is ordinary personal use. Posting it publicly or passing it to people outside the audience it was meant for can expose information the creator never intended to share, and the recording still belongs to them. Ask before sharing it further.
